Fast Forward: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting: DAY FIFTEEN
“…if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold all things have become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17
Revival is a term that signifies that life that has been allowed to ebb away has once again returned to vibrancy. For God’s people it requires we take hold with fervency to the life Christ gives and intends for us. To take hold implies a letting go, a rejecting of anything that is keeping us from Him. Jesus said in Luke 9 that we must jettison our attachments to the life this world craves to experience the life He designed and desires for us.
Revival is God’s fire purging out all the dead wood and weeds of sin in order to pave way for new and fresh growth. It is God stripping us down to first things so that He may open up heaven’s windows for spiritual fruit to abound in our lives.
The simple truth is only God can bring revival. We will find it in no other source. Sadly, we usually discover this only after we have tried several life-draining counterfeits only to find they are dead ends. Revival is not somethingGod gives; it is Christ’s presence breaking through in the fullness of His Spirit. It is so important during these 21 days of seeking the heart of God that we do not seek for God to do something. Revival is the presence of Some One who reveals Himself as His people push through the fog and noise of this world into His presence. In His presence it is possible for the old things that have kept us in despair and defeat to pass away. He makes it possible for all things to become new. This does not mean that He will change everything around us so that life will be easier. Rather, it means that we can see and deal with life as new people with a God-given inner compass, an inner strength that overcomes what used to defeat us.
Read Galatians 5:22-23. If you would be truly honest with yourself, would you say that your life is operating more out of the old ways of this world or the new things of Christ? Hint: the evidence of the new at work will be the daily growing of the fruit of His Spirit in your life.
