Fast Forward: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting: DAY ELEVEN
Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out, that seasons of refreshing may come...”
- Acts 3:19-20
Yesterday we looked at Psalms 51 and you were asked to pray and ask God to show you anything in your life that is hindering you from having a clean heart and a steadfast spirit. As you can see from today’s Scripture dealing with sin is a prerequisite for “seasons of refreshing” that come from “the presence of the Lord.” The bible says in Numbers 32:23 that “be sure your sin will catch up with you.” Sin must be dealt with for revival to happen. Revival isn’t something we can just pray and ask God for. There must be work on our part first. I’m not suggesting our works move the hand of God. But when we deal with our sin it moves the heart of God, because He loves us and desires to bless us. When we don’t see God at work it’s likely because of our sin and rebellion.
Prayer and fasting feeds our spirit. It enables us to see that our sin and wickedness is in opposition to God. 2 Thessalonians 1:8-10 says that Jesus will take “vengeance with flaming fire on those who don’t know God and on those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious strength 10 on that day when he comes to be glorified by his saints and to be marveled at by all those who have believed, because our testimony among you was believed.” When we were dead in our sin our penalty was going to be eternal destruction from the Lord’s presence. It was going to be eternity in hell. As Ephesians 2:4-5 says, “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us,5 made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses.” Praise God for sending Jesus to make atonement for our sin!
Sin, rebellion, and disregard for the things of God are becoming the culture’s norm. We must pray for revival. We must pray for an awakening of God’s people. When people see how God has transformed lives, people will be drawn to God. Not because of what any one person has done. But because of what God has done. We must repent first for times of “refreshing” to come!
read Psalms 85. Pray specifically that God would revive His people and that they may rejoice in Him.
